Thomson Reuters has released the next generation of CoCounsel Legal, an agentic AI system designed for legal professionals. This new version, available in the United States, combines legal research, drafting, legal intelligence, verification, and matter-centric workflows into a single environment built on Westlaw and Practical Law content. The system is built on Anthropic's Claude Agent SDK, allowing it to plan, reason, and execute across legal workflows. Key new features include Westlaw Brief Builder for litigators to create drafts with validated authority, Workspaces for matter-specific environments, Drafting Agent for Word, Tabular Analysis for document review, Deep Research Verify for citation checking, and an AI Learning Path for paralegals. Partnerships with Anthropic, AWS, and Reveal enhance integration. The launch addresses the shift from AI experimentation to enterprise adoption by providing transparent, citation-backed results that maintain lawyer control. Availability is expanding to Canada, UK, and Australia later this year.
