Legal Document Checklist Generator
Create a general list of records to gather before speaking with an attorney.
Choose a broad legal topic to see commonly useful categories of documents. Check off items you already have and add your own. The list is a preparation aid, not a statement of what is legally required or relevant.

You may need fewer, different, or additional documents. Preserve original files and metadata when possible, and do not alter records. Ask the attorney what to bring and how to transmit sensitive material.
How to organize records for a consultation
Keep originals in a safe place and use clearly labeled copies or digital folders for working materials. A simple naming pattern such as YYYY-MM-DD — sender — short description can make records easier to match with a timeline. Avoid renaming or editing original photographs, messages, audio, or other digital evidence if the original metadata could matter.
A checklist is only a starting point. Relevance depends on the facts, jurisdiction, legal issue, and advice of the attorney. If a record is harmful, embarrassing, or appears inconsistent with your recollection, do not conceal or destroy it; discuss it privately with the attorney.
Use the Case Timeline Builder to connect records with dated events, then prepare a meeting overview with the Consultation Preparation Tool.
