GST Council officials visit AP to study AI-driven tax admin

Senior officials from the GST Council Secretariat, including Additional Secretary Pankaj Kumar Singh and Joint Secretary D P Mishra, visited Andhra Pradesh to evaluate the state's Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tax administration modules. The delegation reviewed various technology-driven systems, including AI-enabled dashboards for registrations, returns, revenue, and audits. These tools, developed using engines from Microsoft and Google, assist in estimating tax payments and monitoring revenue through E-way bill data.

The officials were briefed on how GST data serves as a proxy indicator for calculating Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and the methodology for nowcasting. Demonstrations included AI-integrated workflows for return scrutiny, audits, and inspections, covering everything from case selection to adjudication. Additionally, the delegation reviewed a Legal AI module designed to manage legal cases and assist government pleaders by tracking matters before various appellate authorities and courts.

During the visit, Chief Commissioner Babu A requested that the GST Council Secretariat provide the necessary API to enable seamless integration of GST data with the state's AI systems, which would facilitate real-time revenue monitoring.
