Harvey Scales Legal AI Document Processing by 26x in One Year

Blockchain News
Harvey's document processing volume has surged 26-fold in one year, reaching tens of millions of documents weekly through infrastructure upgrades.

Summary

Harvey, a legal AI platform valued at $11 billion, has experienced a massive 26x increase in document processing volume over the last year. The platform has grown from processing under one million documents per week to 24.8 million documents weekly, totaling approximately 3.5 million documents daily. This growth is driven by increased enterprise adoption and deep integration with document management systems like iManage, SharePoint, Google Drive, and Box.

To manage this scale, Harvey underwent a significant architectural overhaul. The company rebuilt its document processing pipeline into distinct stages for extraction, embedding, and indexing to allow for independent scaling. Key technical innovations include the introduction of a Unified Document Format (UDF) to reduce latency and a migration to a new vector-store system to handle increased memory pressure. These upgrades allow the platform to process diverse file types, including scanned PDFs and email archives, while maintaining high performance.

With over 200,000 professionals using the platform and 850,000 daily queries, Harvey has become a critical backbone for legal workflows such as due diligence and contract analysis. As the company continues to scale, it is focusing on enhancing autoscaling capabilities and streamlining operations to meet the increasing demands of high-volume, enterprise-grade legal AI workflows.
