Y Combinator alum Moritz raises $9m to build a law firm supercharged with AI
Summary
Norwegian legal tech startup Moritz has raised a $9 million pre-seed round to build an AI-native law firm. The company closed the round in just four days after completing Y Combinator's spring batch. Backed by 20VC, Urban Innovation Fund, and 20 unicorn founders, Moritz aims to become an AI-enabled law firm rather than selling its tools to existing firms. Cofounder Pamir Ehsas explains that the company is building the world's largest global law firm from scratch, focusing on highly automatable commercial, corporate, and employment work. The firm plans for AI to handle 80% of the work, including intake and first drafts, with contracted co-counsel lawyers finalizing the work. Moritz has supported over 100 companies with $2 billion in contract value since its launch. The company has set up its law firm in the US and is expanding its services across Europe.
