Binalyze launches Magellan to bring 'e-discovery' into the security operations center - SiliconANGLE
Summary
Binalyze has announced Magellan, a new feature designed to integrate “e-discovery” capabilities directly into security operations centers (SOCs). This addresses the common problem where SOCs lack visibility into the actual content of files during incident investigations, relying instead on metadata. Binalyze argues this reliance on metadata hinders understanding of the true impact of incidents. Magellan allows teams to search and examine file contents in real-time across endpoints and hybrid environments without needing to centrally index data.
According to Binalyze founder Emre Tinaztepe, existing detection tools often indicate suspicious activity without revealing the data involved. Magellan aims to solve this by enabling analysts to quickly understand what information may have been exposed or misused. The offering is embedded within Binalyze’s existing automated investigation and response platform, providing distributed full-text search directly on the device where the data resides.
Binalyze has secured $31.2 million in funding, including a $19 million round in September 2023, from investors including Molten Ventures and Cisco Investments. Magellan also helps proactively identify potential issues, such as unauthorized access to confidential files.
