F1 Champion McLaren Racing Joins Hedera Council to Help Govern Network

McLaren Racing, a prominent Formula 1 and IndyCar team, has become a member of the Hedera Council, gaining a role in governing the Hedera enterprise blockchain network. The team, recent champions in Formula 1, will participate in software and services governance, network activities, and hold equal voting rights with other Council members. McLaren has already begun leveraging Hedera by launching free digital collectibles during Grand Prix events, aiming to engage both motorsport fans and the Web3 community.

According to McLaren Racing Co-Chief Commercial Officer Nick Martin, the partnership will allow McLaren to “help shape the Hedera network’s evolution, while delivering a seamless, secure, and scalable fan experience worldwide.” The collaboration extends beyond collectibles, with McLaren leadership scheduled to participate in HederaCon in Miami Beach.

Hedera’s governing council consists of 39 rotating members from diverse sectors, ensuring no single entity holds disproportionate power. Recent additions to the Council include FedEx, Google, IBM, Dell Technologies, LG, Deutsche Telekom, and Ubisoft. Following the announcement, Hedera’s HBAR token experienced a 2% increase in value, currently trading at $0.094, though it remains significantly below its 2021 all-time high.
