It Brief India
Simpler Today AI received INR 20 lakh in funding to develop its legal AI system aimed at improving access to justice in India.

Summary

Simpler Today AI has secured INR 20 lakh from IIT Mandi iHub and HCI Foundation via the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme. The company intends to use the funding for product development, research, and expansion of its legal AI system, designed to address the significant case backlog in India's justice sector – currently exceeding 50 million pending cases.

The platform, backed by PracSys Law Firm, provides end-to-end legal services, combining software with legal professionals to assist citizens in managing legal issues from initial complaint to resolution, covering areas like fraud, property disputes, and family matters. It has already been deployed in 29 police stations in Raigad, Maharashtra, serving over 3.5 million citizens and supporting more than 30 laws and 100 legal use cases through a multilingual interface.

According to Amit Shukla, co-founder of Simpler Today AI, the funding validates the importance of legal access for national security and inclusive growth. The company’s approach focuses on improving complaint quality and reducing ambiguity at the earliest stages of a dispute, aiming to alleviate pressure on courts and police. Investors highlighted the company’s “deep-tech, public-impact innovation” and potential for scalable impact within India’s justice and governance ecosystem.
