Trust and Confidence Remain the Biggest Barriers to Legal AI Adoption, New 2026 Benchmark Finds

Ein Presswire
A new report reveals that while most legal teams have AI access, low trust in AI outputs and lack of training hinder its effective implementation.

Summary

Factor’s 2026 GenAI in Legal Benchmarking Report, based on surveys of 204 legal professionals, indicates that 82.7% of legal teams now have access to generative AI, but only 22.1% have high trust in its outputs. According to Varun Mehta, CEO of Factor, simply providing access isn’t enough; building trust requires the right mindset, context, and operational support. The primary barriers to AI adoption are a lack of trust (22.8%) and insufficient training or confidence (21.7%). Teams with high trust are over three times more likely to see a positive ROI from AI initiatives. Will McKinnon of Russell Reynolds Associates emphasizes the need to transform access into trusted, scalable workflows. The report highlights that legal teams require reliable, defensible, and repeatable AI outputs, necessitating capability development and integration into defined workflows with validation practices. The next phase of legal AI adoption will depend on effectively operationalizing AI in daily work with consistently verifiable standards.
