The bail was granted because the Special Investigation Team (SIT) failed to file the chargesheet within the required timeframe. Padmakumar had previously obtained statutory bail in a related case involving the alleged misappropriation of gold from door frames. This latest bail plea concerned the alleged theft of gold from the Dwarapalaka idols and was filed after 90 days of remand.
Seven individuals accused in the case have already been released on bail; five received statutory bail, including Unnikrishnan Potti, Murari Babu, D Sudheesh Kumar, N Vasu, and S Sreekumar, while Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru and K S Baiju were granted regular bail. The case revolves around allegations of gold theft and misappropriation from the Sabarimala temple.
