This startup is building an all-in-one AI ecosystem for Nigerian law firms

Techpoint Africa
Modulaw AI is developing an AI platform to streamline legal operations for Nigerian law firms, addressing issues of data access and accuracy.

Summary

Modulaw AI is an AI-powered legal operations platform designed to address the inefficiencies faced by Nigerian law firms, particularly the challenges of limited access to structured legal data and the risks associated with AI 'hallucinations' in legal citations. Founded by Abiola Ogodo and Tobiloba Owoeye, the platform combines legal research, case management, client collaboration, and workflow automation into a single system. Its core research tool utilizes a database of approximately 10,000 Nigerian Appeal Court and Supreme Court judgments, employing a retriever-augmented generation (RAG) architecture to ensure result reliability.

Beyond research, Modulaw AI offers features like task assignment, document management, billing, and automated workflows triggered by client intake forms. The company operates a tiered subscription model with usage-based credits and charges fees for payment processing. Since its commercial launch in August 2025, it has onboarded 28 law firms and generated over ₦4 million in revenue, remaining bootstrapped to date.

Modulaw AI differentiates itself from competitors like Case Radar and NextCounsel by offering a comprehensive, all-in-one solution. Despite challenges such as limited data availability and slow adoption rates, the startup aims to become a full legal operating system, with plans to expand into contract lifecycle management and new markets, including other African countries and the United States.
