‘Streets ahead’ – London aims to wear the legal AI crown

City A.M.
London is positioning itself as the global capital of legal AI, surpassing New York in senior AI hiring within top law firms.

Summary

Despite a fierce transatlantic talent war where US firms are driving up salaries, London has secured a strategic advantage in legal AI. Data from Search Acumen reveals that 25 per cent of global senior AI hires at top UK and US law firms are based in London, compared to just 10 per cent in New York. Andrew Lloyd, managing director at Search Acumen, noted that London remains the epicentre of global legal authority. While the US leads in the overall AI race, the UK has a strong foundation with 315 legaltech and AI businesses, representing 44 per cent of Europe's legal tech startups. London's strategy relies on the power of English law to attract legal tech companies, creating a virtuous cycle of investment and expertise. Lloyd stated that supporting this growth should be a priority for City leaders, especially given the economic climate.
