Canadians are waiting nearly three years for airline complaints to be resolved
Summary
A recent report by Courtready reveals significant delays in resolving air passenger complaints with the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA). The analysis of 38,104 complaint outcomes between September 2023 and September 2025 shows an average wait time of 987 days – nearly three years – for a decision. This represents a substantial increase from 692 days between July and September 2024. The number of decisions issued by the CTA has also declined, reaching a record low in September 2025 with only 1,348 decisions, a 45% drop from the August 2024 peak.
The report highlights “growing public frustration over lengthy delays” and indicates that WestJet leads in the number of complaints with 13,005 cases, followed by Air Canada with 11,257 and Flair Airlines with 3,891. Beyond submitting complaints to the CTA, some Canadians are pursuing legal action, as evidenced by a new class-action lawsuit launched against Air Canada regarding flight delays between December 2019 and August 2022. Further data on air travel complaints is available through Courtready’s Air Passenger Complaint Tracker.
