Getting to the root cause of industrial disease

Many people embark on jobs that have high risks.  Jobs that mean there could be exposure to a variety of hazards that could affect their health.  Industrial diseases are not part of your job description, they are not something you should have to suffer with, but they can become life-long illnesses.

Different types of industrial disease

There are many different types of industrial disease.  These can include:

  • Asbestosis and mesothelioma
  • Chemical exposure
  • Industrial hearing loss
  • Repetitive strain injury (RSI)
  • Vibration white finger
  • Occupational asthma
  • Deafness

Each of these occurs due to long-term exposure within a working environment. As anyone who has suffered from an industrial disease will know, they really have a massive impact on your everyday life.  So severe sometimes that the victim can no longer work.  So severe even that normal day-to-day tasks become virtually impossible.  So severe that fatalities have occurred.

You can make a claim against industrial disease.  Even if your job meant that you had prior warning to an industrial disease.  You can still make a claim for loss of earnings, financial support for no longer being able to work and aid to help you deal with day-to-day tasks with less struggle.

Asbestosis, for example, is a chronic lung disease that causes scarring on the lungs.  Anyone who has developed asbestosis from working in an environment with asbestos, could also have a high risk of developing further lung diseases and even cancer.

The asbestosis can take years to form, and may form long after you have left the business.  When you leave a business you can expect a card to wish you on your way, leaving drinks or maybe even a gift.  Lung disease and a high risk of cancer is most certainly not something you should be taking with you.
