DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines lawyer has become the first American to both climb Mt. Everest and swim the English Channel. Charlie Wittmack crossed the 21-mile channel on Sunday. He swam from Dover, England, to Calais, France, in about 12 hours.
